Vision

Imagine an educational world where students have access to technology in school and at home. Imagine students interacting with their textbooks by watching video simulations, manipulating models, and stacking virtually highlighted notes and vocabulary. Imagine a classroom where assignments are electronically submitted to the teacher without the consumption of paper, ink, or toner.

We have a dream for our students to be able to have unlimited access to learning opportunities through interactive collaboration and virtual simulations. We dream about an environment where students can have an unlimited opportunity to explore, innovate, and collaborate with authentic learning, including opportunities for students to collaborate in groups solving authentic community problems.

We believe that the ubiquitous use of technology in schools will create a culture of digital and global learning, increase the relevance of education in real-world scenarios, and allow for a more individualized, flexible and differentiated learning. We believe that the 1:1 initiative will increase access to learning resources for students and provide a leverage point for teachers to change teaching and learning practices.

During the 2012-2013 school year, we will provide every seventh grade student with a web-based device.  After a brief introductory period, students will have a mobile device to use throughout the school day and at home, which will allow for the extension of learning beyond the school day.  After extensive research, discussion, and stakeholder input, Saucon Valley believes that the Apple iPad provides students and teachers with the best option for creating a 1:1 school. The iPads will be a source of student engagement and instruction with the use of applications, web-based software, and eBooks.

Successful implementation will allow for expansion of the project in the 2013-2014 school year so that both 7th and 8th grade students have iPads, with the eventual goal of having 1:1 devices for all secondary students (grade 7-12) by the 2014-2015 school year.

Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, flexibility, interaction, productivity, leadership, accessibility.  These are the hallmarks of 21st century learning, and we believe that the 1:1 initiative with provide teachers and students with the tools to make these hallmarks a reality.
