The iTeam!

Ms Lesney and Mr. Miller work with our groups of iTeam students.
There 22 outstanding students who are  part of our school’s 2013/2014 iTeam. They are very excited to work with everyone! We have already started the Digital Citizenship course.  We are working hard to learn many different programs and how to troubleshoot so that they will be able to meet the needs of students as well as teachers.

Today was the day!

iPads were distributed to the 7th graders for a class or two today.  They were so excited. When I chatted with the students during the lunch time, they seemed so appreciative of the opportunity.  8th graders will be reissued their devices once all the insurance forms are returned and we have worked through the necessary logistics.  Here are some ideas for how they might be used in the classroom - http://www.edudemic.com/2013/04/7-ways-to-use-your-ipad-in-the-classroom/

Pats on the back to the Tech staff for all their efforts this past summer in getting everything "ready to go"!

Ready to start year two . . .

Well, I don't think we call this an "initiative" anymore, but implementation.  We are expanding our 1-to-1 iPad implementation to grade 8, so now all 7th & 8th graders will be issued individual iPads with the goal to have them take the device home for 24/7 access.  Interesting that the rising 8th graders will be experienced with iPad use having been issued them last year,  while the teachers will be somewhat novices (although they had been practicing since last December) and the rising 7th graders will be the novices and the teachers will be the experienced iPad users.  Don't you just love when kids can teach you things!

Information will be coming home with students about renewing insurance for 8th grade families and purchasing for 7th grade.  An information session will be held during the annual Back-to-School Night for our 7th grade families on Thursday, September 26.  Stay tuned!

ITeam and Our Trip to New York City

The iTeam had the wonderful opportunity to go to NYC to attend a class at Apple Store, go to the Sony Tech Lab and gather a sense of a city environment.  Thanks to the Educational Foundation for the funding.  A very special thanks to the chaperones and especially Ms L. for organizing.
Here is a video of our experience!  WOW!

The iTeam in NYC

We had the wonderful opportunity to take the current and next year's iTeams to New York City.  We went to the Sony Tech Center and took a class at the Apple Store.  Kids walked through Central Park and enjoyed the buzz and hustle of a metropolitan area.  Some had never been there before. Oh, yes, a trip to FAO Swartz was in order as well. The kids were great!  Made us all very proud. A great way to cap off a wonderful year of exploring technology. Thanks to the Educational Foundation for the funding and to the great teachers that encouraged our learners throughout the year!
